My favorite Quotes -- Revolution 2020

Morning Everyone,
Revolution 2020, Revolution 2020 quotes, Revolution 2020 book cover
Revolution 2020
How is it all going on? Grabbed a good read these days? Well, Yeah, I have. Revolution 2020 by Chetan Bhagath. The official introduction to the books says:

Once upon a time, in small-town India, there lived two intelligent boys.
One wanted to use his intelligence to make money.
One wanted to use his intelligence to create a revolution.
The problem was, they both loved the same girl.

I loved the book a lot. Here is a review for the book and below you can find my favorite lines in the book:
'Looks like we will have to break the door', the maid said
I wondered how I, who had come as a chief guest for a college orientation program, became involved with forcing open random toilets in Varanasi.
'Sounds good,' Raghav said. 'I am sure you will crack something. At least AIEE.'
When people clear JEE, they start using phrases like 'at least AIEEE.'
When girls use vague terms like 'generally', it is cause for specific concern. Or maybe not.
Raghav's advising her? Who is he? A career counselor? Or does he have the license to preach now because he has a fucking JEE rank?
'Love is what your parents give you if you clear the IIT exam', he said
Pouting, she went back to her seat. 'Mr. Editor, don't edit me out of your life, okay?' she said.
Old friends are old friends, Goapl. Boyfriends and all are fine, but they never understand you like old friends can'
'Different? Formal? Is that all you say?' she mocked.
'No .. you look great. But I didn't expect to see you in a sari,' I said.
'Didn't expect what? that your stupid classmate from school could get a real job?' she wiggled her eyebrows, hands on hips.
'Yeah. You are quite stupid."
Every Friday I made rounds of the classes. I kept a three-day stubble to look old enough to be a director.
She picked up a french fry from her plate and threw it at me. She missed. It fell on the sofa.
'Oops, pick it up, please. I can't dirty my own hotel.' she said
I went back to undoing her jeans. Girls wear the most unremovable, tight jeans in the world. I found it impossible to take them off without her help
'All you boys are the same. First you chase, but when you get the girl, you want to be kinds,' she said
'You are my queen, my dear,' I said.
'Cheesy. Conry. Horrible,' she said
How do you come up with a suitable sentence to convey something you have meant to say for years? .... 'I am better than you, asshole'

Well Well, have you read this book? Or any other book by Chetan Bhagath? How do you feel about it? Your opinion on his style?

She Reads To Me

Well Well, I am also sharing this poem on Poets United. So welcome to everyone coming from there. Don't forget to check out my amazing contest and to win loads of prizes.

You can hear me right? she asks
though I can't reply back
& with all love, she hugs
my old-ugly-itchy truck trunk

Does she like me alone
or all trees? I never knew.
Do I love her back/owe her one?
So mature, So decisive, My heart never grew

Wait I do, everyday, at the same
hour, for her to come & read the story.
I remember not, either the plot or the name
all I want is, the glory in making her merry

Sings she, in her sing-song voice
before leaving, And they lived happily
ever-after. Leaving me with no choice
but to see her leave, dancing merrily

Pathetic job with grammar right? I know!! Let me know how I can improve it? Liked the poem? Don't forget to send some words of praise!!

Don't forget to visit the contest.

Writers Campaign -- The Whistle

Hello Everyone,

How did the weekend go? Enjoyed? Gonna start the week with a bang? Gonna work for all your dreams? Hope so. I am participating in the Writers Platform Building Challenge. Today's post is for the third campaigner challenge. Here is all I need to do:

Write a blog post in 300 words or less, excluding the title. The post can be in any format, whether flash fiction, non-fiction, humorous blog musings, poem, etc. The blog post should show:
  • that it’s morning,
  • that a man or a woman (or both) is at the beach
  • that the MC (main character) is bored
  • that something stinks behind where he/she is sitting
  • that something surprising happens.
Just for fun, see if you can involve all five senses AND include these random words: "synbatec," "wastopaneer," and "tacise."

Lets not waste any more time. Here is my entry:

"Isn't it a pleasure Abhi, to watch the morning sun", spoke John, trying to cheer up a unhappy, bitter Abhi.
"Well, might-be for you."
"Come on buddy, how many people get to watch the sun? Everyday while he is rising?"
"Yeah, you and me, the only cleaning staff at beach, get such a fabulous once in a lifetime chance"
"Ha Ha, you sound pretty irritated even now. This is our summer job. Don't get so cocky", advised John
"Yeah, when your grap has a million dollars under his arse, it is sure fun to clean this wastopaneer on beach every morning."
“Now Now, don't get carried away.  You can't eat it however hungry you are"
"Can't you listen .. grrr .. my stomach is asking me to feed it"
"That is trash aka tacise as little Nikki spells it. Not to eat”  warned John.
“I am fucking bored. I don't like this job and I am gonna quit”
“Oye, we are still left with the main task. Once you are done with it, you are free to quit” spoke John, setting his loose glove right.
“Yeah, I remember, you aren't strong enough to pull that stinking corpse from under the beach-house right?” teased Abhi, with a glimpse of satisfaction about his strong body
“It is only a left-over. Dunno how they could do it.”
“Why, it is perfectly normal to fry fish over camp-fire. What's so special with it?”
“I am vegetarian remember? How can you eat such cute organisms?”
“Shhh.... Can you hear it?”
“Yeah., is it a whistle?” asked confused John

“Damn sure. It is, somewhere very near. Check for the sea-shore”

“I can't see anything. It must be from the beach-house”
“Idiot. It is a dolphin's whistle. Not from a player. I know.” spoke a pepped up Abhi

Well, what do you say? I showed? Is it cool? Is using dialogue easy way to show? Is there any other way to show? I guess showing => using dialogue. Is it so simple? Is there more to it? Got any resources which can guide me? Do let me know!!

Change -- Poem

If change be the fact of life,
then why in my life is boredom?
The same way it heads, like knife
does, to a man’s doom.

When strength is in me, why I fail
& think of faults that aren’t in me.
Like the wild grass of the woods,
For a change, why not my life be?

Tired I am to plan & engage,
bored I am to eat & sleep,
thirsty I am for a better change,
which never comes to my lap.

I did pray & I did try to begin,
with something new for a change.
I did get the password to login,
among others for a life I love of change.

Do let me know how you feel about it? Liked it? Is this poem true for you too? Faced such crisis ever?

Critique --- My WIP

Good Morning Everyone,

How is life going on?? Enjoying? Well, the moment I signed up for writers platform building campaign, I meet a lot of cool people viz authors, readers, bloggers and such.

We have come together and made a critique group for ourselves This post is for them all. So here are first 250 words of my WIP. Kindly go through the same.

Title Of Book: 3 things about my Facebook!!
Genre: Young Adult
First 250 words:
My world was a sweet dream. I was the luckiest man on earth for I got to know whom I love the most. I had a father who loves money more than anything. I had a job that pays me about $200 at a young age of 19. I was confident that I could win the heart of my princess, become rich, become popular and of course famous. And I had ample dreams of becoming a huge, successful author.

On the fateful morning of Dec 4, the princess of my world, Ms. Ammu, invited me to her home for a get-together. Well everything went well I hope. We all had fun, enjoyed together and had delicious lunch. I was introduced to a young lad that day. Mr. Vinay, Ammu's Boyfriend. Well, I understood
what Harry Potter meant by my internals are filled with lead that very moment. I didn't know what to do then. I also had to hear their story with a smile on my face. A 70mm smile which came from depths of heart.

Well, I at least understood how outdated I am. How remote I have become from my own, one time classmates. I couldn't answer the questions like "What am I?" & "What the hell I am gonna do now?" Could I move on? Is this what is called as break-up? Isn't this the catastrophe of the century? Half my colleagues were ready to round up Vinay and kick the hell out of him.."

For everyone, who is interested in going into details and reading this a little more: find the first 5 chapters of the book here. Don't forget to let me know how you feel about it.

Man behind Steve Jobs

Since Steve Jobs died, there has been a lot of talk about the amazing people he has joined in inventing history. However, there is one man they missed, and he is also the man Jobs looked up to: Edwin H. Land. As the genius behind Polaroid and instant photography, he’s an important man to remember.

Land, in his time, was nearly as visible as Jobs was in his. In 1972, he made the covers of both Time and Life magazines, probably the only chemist ever to do so. (Instant photography was a genuine phenomenon back then, and Land had created the entire medium, once joking that he’d worked out the whole idea in a few hours, then spent nearly 30 years getting those last few details down.) And the more you learn about Land, the more you realize how closely Jobs echoed him.

Most of all, Land believed in the power of the scientific demonstration. Starting in the 60s, he began to turn Polaroid’s shareholders’ meetings into dramatic showcases for whatever line the company was about to introduce. In a perfectly art-directed setting, sometimes with live music between segments, he would take the stage, slides projected behind him, the new product in hand, and instead of deploying snake-oil salesmanship would draw you into Land’s World. By the end of the afternoon, you probably wanted to stay there.

Three decades later, Jobs would do exactly the same thing, except in a black turtleneck and jeans. His admiration for Land was open and unabashed. In 1985, he told an interviewer, “The man is a national treasure. I don’t understand why people like that can’t be held up as models: This is the most incredible thing to be — not an astronaut, not a football player — but this.”

I was going through, various articles on Steve Jobs recently. Hope everyone liked this article. This article is a re-post. I mean, this article is taken from here

Cat - Women, Quotes!!

Hello Everyone,
How was your weekend? Enjoyed? Liked it? Partied all night? Mine was awesome.

Got my hand upon Cat-Women by Elizabeth Hand. An awesome book in itself. Fiction, cats, lots of cats, purring, roof-tops, black leather, .. and more mystery.
I kind of enjoyed the book. Here are some of my favorite quotes from the book. Some of these quotes are used in rather humorous tones and it became a hit with me. I mean, this style:
So sharing some of the cool quotes:
Nature gave horns to bulls, hooves to horses, speed to hares, stealth to cats, the power of swimming to fishes, that of flying to birds, and knowledge to men. She had nothing left to women save Beauty. Beauty is proof against spears and shields. She who is beautiful is more formidable than fire and iron
To die and to lose one's life are much the same thing
The cat in gloves catches no mice
There is something wrong with beau-line. Yeah. Just like there's something wrong with a world that drives women to prize youth and beauty above all things -- like a deadly dropkick.
Beauty is as Summer fruits, which are easy to corrupt and cannot last.

Liked them?? You like quotes like these? Any other author who uses quotes? Paulo Coelho uses them for sure. Who else?

Do Women Make The World Better

Hello Everyone,

The weekend has arrived at last. Hope you all have your marvelous plans and that all goes well.

I was speaking to my friends other day about a excerpt from Helmet for my pillow. Kindly go through the same here:

Robert Leckie due to some illness, reports to division hospital and from there he is admitted into p-38 ward at Banika. He is speaking to one of the corpsman after his initial screening.

If Banika was an island paradise, it had, for enlisted men, its forbidden fruit: the nurses.

“It isn’t personal,” explained the corpsman who had told me about the Kid. “It’s just that they’re women, and women out here are just no good. They cause too much trouble.” He reflected a moment. “You know, we didn’t have nurses when we first got to Banika. There was just the doctors and ourselves.” He sighed wistfully. “It was wonderful. The doctors shared their liquor rations with us and everything. It was like one big happy family. We ate good, too, as good as the doctors. You never heard of a doctor pulling his rank. We got along wonderfully together.” His face darkened. “Then the nurses came, and everything changed overnight. We weren’t good enough anymore. No more liquor, no more top chow, no more friendliness. The nurses talked only to doctors and the doctors talked only to God. And the trouble is, our work hasn’t gotten one bit easier. If anything, it’s harder, what with the tension.” His face got gloomier. “And look what the nurses did to the whole base. Look at the fancy stockade they had to build for them and get a whole MP battalion to stand guard over them. Look at how the men eat their heart out every time they see an officer riding around in a jeep with a nurse beside him. And how do you think they feel when they see the officer has a pistol on his hip? What the hell does that mean, eh? It means he’s supposed to defend this pure woman’s honor against an attack by us crummy enlisted men. We’re the only ones that’d do it, y’know. The lieutenant’s glands have been to Officers’ Candidate School.” His voice was bitter, now. “It’s crazy. It’s unfair. Women have no place out here.”

What do you feel about it? Do men really act crazy in front of women? Have men really brought out the distinctions to chase women? Do men need to show themselves as superior? What is wrong here? The women? Or The men? What are your thoughts about his? Do let me know!!

With warm regards

What Would You Do??

Morning Everyone,

Hope all is well at your end and that the good lord would continue to be gracious on both of us!!

I was going through, The Unexploded Man by Leslie Watkins early in the morning today. The book is about Russians plan to invade the Europe for their own safety. But But, using a specialized sabotage mission under guidance of Secret Seven A special unit for this purpose they try to destroy the credibility of politicians in British Parliament so as to help Russia. For this purpose, David Barnett, a political gossip writer, is kidnapped and kept in prison, tortured to reveal flaws of politicians.

Scene: David Barnett is kidnapped and taken into the House his prison  and a day passes without much happening. The next day, Rupert the Unexploded Man or the Evil Character introduces himself to Mr. Barnett:

It was a large and black room. Expensively and elegantly funereal. Black walls. Black carpet. Black furnishings. On one way, away to Barnett's left, were clamped three television monitor sets. They were being fed pictures from unseen cameras scanning the top of wall around the House. Rupert indicated them "Our security arrangements, as you see, Mr. Barnett, are ingenious and impregnable. So, please \, don't even consider the chances of escaping. Even if you w\could get out of the House -- and I promise you would never do that -- you could not possibly get over the wall. Not without being seen."
"These cameras--they also work at night?" Barnett's question was a challenge. He was not expecting an honest answer ut he wanted to show he was not completely cowed.

Rupert laughed. "You almost met the sentinels of night, Mr. Barnett". The words, as usual, came floating from his motionless half-lips. "They are too dangerous to be released during the day" Again that awful metallic laugh. "They would tear a man to pieces."

"So I'm impressed," said Barnett flatly. "Now what do you want from me. All this elaborate performance …….. how can I possibly be worth it?"

Now Now, Assume you are Mr. David Barnett. What would you do in such a situation? All your attempts to find out why you were kidnapped are meet with failure. You aren't tortured, You are feed properly but but you having a feeling in your gut that says there is something sinister going on. How will you cope up in the empty cell? What will your thoughts be about?

Sin of Being too wise

Hello Everyone,

How did the week go? Enjoyed the weekend? Mine was good. Hope the same with you all.

I was going through a old, worn out copy of Robinson Crusoe the other day and found a rather interesting and appropriate paragraph. Kindly go through the same here:
When misfortune  falls upon Robinson Crusoe on his first voyage, he thinks a lot about going back to his home and settling down in trade of his father and leaving his inclination towards sea. But But, his train of thoughts is as follows:

As to going home, shame opposed the best motions that offered to my thoughts, and it immediately occurred to me how I should be laughed at among the neighbors, and should be ashamed to see, not my father and mother only, but even everybody else; from whence I have since often observed, how incongruous and irrational the common temper of mankind is, especially of youth, to that reason which ought to guide them in such cases—viz. that they are not ashamed to sin, and yet are ashamed to repent; not ashamed of the action for which they ought justly to be esteemed fools, but are ashamed of the returning, which only can make them be esteemed wise men.
So ever faced this situation? Ever failed in something and you know it is not wise to adventure anymore but still you had to because you might become the laughingstock of people around you?  How on the earth am I supposed to face such a crisis? Kindly advise me!!
