Bold New Approach -- Winners Stand Alone

Hello Everyone,

Most of the readers of this blog are writers, bloggers and avid readers of books. We all have read books. Praised some of books, recommended a few to our friends, discussed the various plots that make a good book and learnt a lot from each book we have read.

For the post on W, for the A - Z blog fest, I choose a except from Winners Stand Alone of Paulo Coelho. This book, has some very very bold statements and ideologies. One such ideology is about fashion. You can understand the stand of this book on fashion, by reading the following excerpt:
fashion young girl, young girl fashion, cartoon
Fashion Girl

Fashion. Whatever can people be thinking? Do they think fashion is something that changes according to the season of the year? Did they really come from all corners of the world to show off their dresses, their jewelry, and their collection of shoes? They don’t  understand.

“Fashion” is merely a way of saying: “I belong to your world. I’m wearing the same uniform as your army, so don’t shoot.”

Ever since groups of men and women first started living together in caves, fashion has been the only language everyone can understand, even complete strangers. “We dress in the same way. I belong to  your tribe. Let’s gang up on the weaklings as a way of surviving.”

But some people believe that “fashion” is everything. Every six months, they spend a fortune changing some tiny detail in order to keep up their membership in the very exclusive tribe of the rich. If they were to visit Silicon Valley, where the billionaires of the IT industry wear plastic watches and beat-up jeans, they would understand that the world has changed;

This is really cool right? A multimillion dollar industry, ridiculed and called out of place. What have you got to say about this? Will you be comfortable making such bold statements in you WIP?? Ever came across such bold theories??

Boiling Frogs??? Are We???

Hello Everyone, I picked up my copy of  Winners Stand Alone by Paulo Coelho the other day. I love Paulo for his work Alchemist and now one more book, on the price to be paid for dreams!! I haven't completed the same yet, but loved it a lot. Here is a small excerpt from the book, a conversation between a millionaire and a street hawker (young, beautiful and appealing) whom the millionaire would like to kill!!
--x--
“Do you know anything about frogs?”
“Frogs?”

“Yes, various biological studies have shown that if a frog is placed in a container along with water from its own pond, it will remain there, utterly still, while the water is slowly heated up. The frog doesn’t react to the gradual increase in temperature, to the changes in its environment, and when the water reaches the boiling point, the frog dies, fat and happy.
“On the other hand, if a frog is thrown into a container full of already boiling water, it will jump straight out again, scalded, but alive!”

Olivia doesn’t quite see what this has to do with the destruction of the world. Igor goes on:
“I was like that boiled frog. I didn’t notice the changes. I thought everything was fine, that the bad things would just go away, that it was just a matter of time. I was ready to die because I lost the most important thing in my life, but, instead of reacting, I sat there bobbing apathetically about in water that was getting hotter by the minute.”

I just dunno anything about the research and frogs, but Wikipedia says, a part of this is true. I wanna ask a question, are we also like the frogs?

We have dreams, we want something to come true, we understand the gap between our dreams and reality and still strive to achieve the dreams. But slowly, without our knowledge, in our daily lives and in the race for survival, are small changes overlooked? If the changes are gradual enough, do we loose focus on our goals and get completely involved with present life till one fine day, we understand, that we lost our chances, we can't run behind our dreams anymore and all we are left with is "unaccomplished goals"
Simple example, you are athletic by physique and intend to build a six pack body to reach the next stage. But you are software programmer with moderate pay and heavy work, always sitting in office, working in some or the other project and attending god dammed meetings, and though you know you are loosing your fitness, nothing can be done! Slowly Slowly you turn into pot belly...

So just have a thought about the same, prioritize your dreams and keep going!!

Don't  forget to grab a copy of Winners Stand Alone here.

with warm regards
