Book Feature: Exodus Lust

Morning All,

Today I have, the book feature of Exodus Lost by S. C. Compton. Here we go with book blurb:

--x--
Exodus Lost reopens outstanding cold cases from antiquity and tracks down their solutions using cutting-edge science, classical scholarship, and tenacity. The adventure begins with an epic journey across the Atlantic Ocean that Aztec and Mayan chronicles describe as their ancestral voyage to Mexico. By mapping the details within these texts, the author locates their lost homeland and corroborates their traditions of an ocean-crossing long before Columbus or the Vikings. This discovery leads to revolutionary insights into the origins of ancient Mexican and Western civilizations, the Bible (including the first archaeological evidence for two major biblical events), the alphabet, a lost passage in the history of the pyramids, and more. Enter a world of exploration and discovery, mystery and revelation. Whether your passion is archaeology or religion, history or simply a great adventure, Exodus Lost delivers.

Beautifully illustrated with 126 photos, maps, and engravings.

wishing S. C. Compton all success,

Author Interview: Amy Peterson: Part Two

Hello Everyone,
Hope you all enjoyed the Author Interview of Ms.  Amy Peterson here. This post is a continuation of the same.

--x--
What was the difficult part of writing this “the stepmother” book?

I was concerned about the kids’ feelings, so gave them time to review the book and bribe me not to publish it. When I didn’t receive any bribes or “please don’t“ comments, I felt comfortable moving forward. (And they’re all still speaking to me, so that’s probably a good sign, too). I did change their names to maintain their privacy and because of things like Tip # 44: You cannot trade a bad child for a good head of lettuce. I was also a bit concerned about the ex-wife in the story. By using Ex (without any name), I made the Ex typical of an Ex in any stepmother’s story—someone not to like or dislike, but to perhaps avoid as long as possible and eventually deal with, “with humor, and, perhaps, a few twisted thoughts.”

Tell us a little about the book cover.

The cover is based on my wedding cake, which I designed. While my cake had clear fish and bubbles, the graphic designer included some great color for the cover. And while our cake didn’t have kids in the boat with the bride and groom, I insisted on that for the cover. I love pointing out to women that the bride’s fishing pole is connected to a larger fish than the groom’s. Not that I’m competitive or anything.

Is this your first book? Future plans about writing? Any projects in the pipeline now?

This is my first book and I intend to heavily market it for the next few months before I dive into finishing up my next book. It’s the humorous story of how I found myself caring for and spoiling a bunch of pets my husband “always wanted,” including frogs, iguanas, hedgehogs, ferrets, mice, gerbils, dogs, a cat, a rabbit and a domestic duck. It will be similar to the stepmother book in that it will be a humorous book with tips. I share some fun wildlife encounters as well.

A few tips / suggestions to young writers about writing in particular?

When most people finish writing a book, there’s usually no party thrown like when we have birthdays or babies. (In fact, there are no parties when women take on four stepkids, either.) So realize that you’re writing for yourself and be prepared for the hard work that begins when the book is done. It’s all about marketing. Keep looking for opportunities like this one—the exposure is priceless, and for that, Abhishek, I thank you.

A few tips / suggestions to writers on being funny and painting a humorous picture?

I think to write humor you almost have to step away from the situation and try to re-live it as if you were watching someone else. At the time I was groping my way along becoming a stepmother, it wasn’t always funny, but as an outsider looking back at my fumbling my way through, I could find a lot of humor in it. I am also fortunate to be able to find humor in every-day things. I mean, how many women get fishing lures for Valentine’s Day? How many people drive an hour to see their stepkid play a lacrosse game and take numerous great photos of the wrong kid? And how many women have two fun female pals willing to pose with a chip clip on their nose while searching for snowy owls at a wastewater treatment plant? Those are all things I’ve blogged about.

Author Interview: Amy Peterson: Part One

Author Interview, Book Author Interview, Interviews, Books
Author Interview
Morning Everyone,

Hope everyone had a great weekend and are starting the week with a bang. To make your week a little more interesting I have an Author Interview staring Amy Peterson the author of From Zero to Four Kids in Thirty Seconds

The book is quite humorous and is available on Amazon here.

--x--

Kindly introduce yourself to the blog audience.

author amy peterson, amy peterson pictures
Author Amy Perterson
I am the stepmother of four kids, wife of an obsessed fisherman, caretaker of over a dozen fuzzy pets, author, blogger, grant manager, photographer and outdoor nut. I blog at amylpeterson.com about nature, pets and life, most of which are light hearted and filled with photos. My book From Zero to Four Kids in Thirty Seconds was published as an e-book on Amazon.com in late December and I’ve been marketing every since. The paperback version will be available on Amazon the week of March 4. A wonderful review of my book was posted by veteran reviewer Joy V. Smith on The New Book Review on February 12—she likened my work to Erma Bombeck. Quotes from Joy’s review and a few others are on my new landing page here

Tell us a little more about your book and about what prompted you to write the book?

From Zero to Four Kids in Thirty Seconds is my humorous story of becoming a stepmom to four kids, ages three, five, 13 and 15. I wrote it because some of the other books about becoming stepmoms are as uplifting as lead balloons, or downright scary. My casual writing style is intended to invite people to get to know me as I show what it’s like to dive in head first without a clue what I was getting into. I also use fun chapter titles and include 70 tips which are humorous and helpful. Consider Tip #11: If your first meeting with the children doesn’t go well, rest assured it won’t be the last thing that won’t go well.

You went from Zero to Four Kids in Thirty Seconds. How was it? Give us your comment on the same?

It was overwhelming and wonderful and stressful and a lot to adjust to and worth every moment. The kids were great: the two youngest (at three and five) were adorable and always excited to see me, and they didn’t seem to care that I didn’t know how to transform a Transformer or change a diaper on a doll (I was a bit of a tomboy growing up). The two older kids were teenagers and they were very good kids, too, though typical teenagers. Consider Tip #22: A teenager can say “I love you, I hate you, you’re cool, you suck,” in one breath to the same person. And mean every word.

Have you ever seriously considered duct taping them all together and sending them out so that you can have a moment’s peace? Kindly elaborate.

book cover, from zero to four kids in thrity seconds
From Zero to Four Kids In 30 Sec
Great question! Chapter 9 of my book is called “Can’t We Just Duct Tape Them Together and Send Them Outside?” and it shows the fun of having four kids in a small apartment for the month of July. To get some peace and quiet, I took up rollerblading to escape for a while. That lasted about a week—until my beau found rollerblades for the kids at a garage sale. Even as I sought ways to find some time for myself, though, I didn’t think seriously about duct taping them together, any more than we would have carried through with the threat of strapping them naked to a flag pole if they whined about the used bikes we bought them at an auction. You’ll see that in Chapter 12: “So Nice Not to Meet You,” which is about dealing with ex-spouses and financial inequity.

What do your kids say about the book? Are they all enthusiastic about it? Especially what do the teenagers say?

The book’s epilogue shares that the kids are all grown up now—the youngest is 22 and will graduate from college in April. So part of what I think my book offers is that the kids all “survived” me being their stepmom, which gives it some credibility. I think the kids would all be thrilled for me if the book became a bestseller. Or even a close-to-best seller. Or even if I sold enough copies to break even.

Critique --- My WIP

Good Morning Everyone,

How is life going on?? Enjoying? Well, the moment I signed up for writers platform building campaign, I meet a lot of cool people viz authors, readers, bloggers and such.

We have come together and made a critique group for ourselves This post is for them all. So here are first 250 words of my WIP. Kindly go through the same.

--x--

Title Of Book: 3 things about my Facebook!!
Genre: Young Adult
First 250 words:
My world was a sweet dream. I was the luckiest man on earth for I got to know whom I love the most. I had a father who loves money more than anything. I had a job that pays me about $200 at a young age of 19. I was confident that I could win the heart of my princess, become rich, become popular and of course famous. And I had ample dreams of becoming a huge, successful author.

On the fateful morning of Dec 4, the princess of my world, Ms. Ammu, invited me to her home for a get-together. Well everything went well I hope. We all had fun, enjoyed together and had delicious lunch. I was introduced to a young lad that day. Mr. Vinay, Ammu's Boyfriend. Well, I understood
what Harry Potter meant by my internals are filled with lead that very moment. I didn't know what to do then. I also had to hear their story with a smile on my face. A 70mm smile which came from depths of heart.

Well, I at least understood how outdated I am. How remote I have become from my own, one time classmates. I couldn't answer the questions like "What am I?" & "What the hell I am gonna do now?" Could I move on? Is this what is called as break-up? Isn't this the catastrophe of the century? Half my colleagues were ready to round up Vinay and kick the hell out of him.."

--x--

For everyone, who is interested in going into details and reading this a little more: find the first 5 chapters of the book here. Don't forget to let me know how you feel about it.

Spartians and Gates of Fire

Morning Everyone,

How is life going on? Hope all is well, at your end by the grace of god. At my end, everything seems to be hectic and yet boring!! Hope I post regularly from now. For today, let us have a book tour. I mean, I am not going to post a review until the later part of this week, but going to show few glimpses of the book I am currently reading.

Gates of Fire:
Gates of Fire, is a historical fiction novel by Steven Pressfield that recounts the Battle of Thermopylae through Xeones, a Spartan Helot and the sole Greek survivor of the battle.

Here is an excerpt from the book, something astonishing, since the men in question are Spartians:

--x--

None of this entered into the scheme of the lady Paraleia, nor Arete either. Her peplos robe was split up the side in the Spartan style, revealing her bare leg to the thigh. This in any other city would have been lewd to the point of scandalous. Yet here in Lakedaemon it was unremarkable in the extreme. This is a leg. We women possess them just like you men. For Spartan males to leer at or ogle a lady in this dress would have been unthinkable. They had beheld their mothers and sisters and daughters naked since they were old enough to open their eyes, both in the girls' and women's athletic training and in the festivals and the other women's processions.

Still these ladies, both of them, were not unaware of their personal magnetism and the effect it produced, even upon a boy in service drawn up before them. After all, wasn't Helen herself a Spartan? The wife of Menelaus,

she whom Paris had carried off to Troy,
the cause of endless suffering
among Trojans and Greeks, and for
whose peerless beauty's sake so many
brave Achaeans lost their lives in Troy
far from their native country.

--x--
My goodness, what the hell is it? Spartian men, always training for war aren’t much interested in women?? I thought it would be other way around, since most of them work hard hard  and harder all day, training for war. There are a lot of such fantastic characteristics of Spartians, which the movie couldn’t portray. Have you seen the movie (300)? Have you read the book, is there anything that the movie missed??

Urgals and Kulls and Movies

Morning Everyone,

Long time, since I posted right? Sorry!! Kind of lazy and busy!! ha ha!! Most of us, read books and enjoy them a lot right? But, when a movie destroys the book, destroys the creativity of the author and shows something stupid, I kinda feel angry about the movie and pity for the folks who can't enjoy the ture story!!

I caught a glimpse of Urgals in the movie Eragon, today early in the morning. I was astonished to see how ugly they were. Some of the descriptions regarding Urgals and Kulls from Eargon series are here:

--x--
Description of Kull From Eldest, When Nar Garzhvog speaks to lady Nasuada regarding combined war effort:

He was a magnificent specimen, eight and a half feet tall, with strong, proud--if grotesque--features, thick horns that spiraled all the way around, and a fantastic musculature that made it seem he could kill a bear with a single blow. His only clothing was a knotted loincloth, a few plates of crude iron armor held together with scraps of mail, and a curved metal disk nestled between his two horns to protect the top of his head. His long black hair was in a queue.

--x--

Description of Urgal From Brisingr, when Roran and Yarbog have to fight each other:

Urgals, Urgals and Kulls, Kulls, Urgal Picture, Eragon Urgals
Urgals
Yarbog stood well over six feet tall. His back was broad, his chest deep, and his arms and legs covered with knotted muscles. His neck was as thick as a bull's, as it had to be in order to sustain the weight of his head and his curled horns. Three slanting scars marked the left side of his waist, where he had been clawed by an animal. Sparse black bristles grew over the whole of his hide.

--x--
Urgals, Kulls, Urgals and Kulls
Urgal
Kulls were kind of heroes to me, in the sense, the hard work they did, the body they built, the way they were awesome in battle and all. But, the movie turned them into a bunch of overgrown, fat evil fellows with marks all over the face!! This is bad!! I just didn't like it!!Have you seen the movie Eragon? Did the movie, depict the fantasy? the various races and creatures? What do you say?

Dreams and their Implications

Hello Everyone,

Few days back, I just heard that Twilight series was based on a dream. I dunno, if it is a rumor or truth, but it is too good to believe. I dream a lot *this is better way of saying, I sleep a lo

t Ha Ha* and I dream fiction. I mean stories, movie plots of what I have seen already, of what my mind is sub-consciously plotting, people whom I miss, my school and my college and I also see a lot, a lot of girls all the time in my dreams.  This was a secret. Not to share. Now that many of my dreams are lost to memory I was particularly amazed myself that I made it a point to note down the major plot of my dreams from past three days. Here you go:

--x--
Troubled flight of a plane -- due to environment and technical reasons -- though crash landing, all members safe --
everyone relived – Govt. grounds the plane -- one day John sights the plane in his alley -- gets into it -- to see that all those passengers are all in there -- living stress free life in plane -- smoking -- drinking and having fun -- all coz everyone once had near death experience in the plane -- and their true fears, true reasons for survival and new enlightenment has come
--x--
American Force Recon team -- In mission -- mission compromised -- three men dead -- the rest arrested -- leader walks out of jail -- kills men responsible for compromising the mission without knowledge of anyone-- the team assists the nation which arrested them in covert missions --
US Army Sensitivity Training Cartoon, US Army, US Army fitness cartoon, US Army
US Army Sensitivity Training Cartoon.
country honors these men but doesn't grant freedom -- US gets to know -- sends red channel orders to these men -- the team kills everyone around and goes back to their mother nation -- to be maries once again
--x--
Tears of a person seem to be very very powerful. Whenever he sheds tears due to grief, something weird happens
to people all around. One more person, he seems to have superpowers. He comes to realize about them when he is extremely stressed / joyful / passed out / exhausted.
--x---

Don't forget to enjoy the verses on the cartoon above regarding US Army sensitivity training

You ever see dreams like this? Or is something wrong with some of my circuits? You ever saw a dream which you wanna write into a book? You know about any wonderful books which were shaped from dreams?

The Favorite Book Challenge Blogfest!

This post is in response to the Favorite Book Challenge Blogfest on Writer's Journey!!Well, I am not the right one to enter this challenge for, I read a hell lot of books (Just like you all, my awesome readers) and my preferences change everytime!! Ha Ha!!

The rules in this blogfest are quite simple and are as follows:
  • Pick your top five favorite books
  • Between Jun 20 and 22, write one line of what each book is about and then write one line of why you liked it. Think of it like a twitter pitch for other people’s work. Semi-colons are cheating, but you can use them anyway
  •  Go to other blogs and discuss the book
  • If you do not keep a blog, put your challenge in the comments on the day of the event.

In simple words, write the log-line of given book!! You can learn a lot about writing log-lines here. So now, the toughest part is to choose my favorite books.

LONE SURVIVOR:
"When Marcus Luttrell, the man who survived hell week, to become a NAVY SEAL, was sent on a recon mission to capture / kill a Taliban member believed close to Osama Bin Laden, is tracked and hunted by a hundreds of taliban warriors who are tipped by a shepherd whom Marcus and his team spared due to human and/or ROE considerations, he comes back to tell the tale of how he alone survived due to sacrifices made by his team THE SEAL 10 & the kindness of the Pashtuns"

ScareCrow:

Will the richest military-industry complex succeed in  the bounty hunt  it started  to destroy the twelve targets who can dis-arm missiles and stop a century of destruction, wherein the destruction is about to be started and  is done under disguise of war against terrorism i.e. response to clone missile attacks against all major nations of the world??

Well, I think I made a shitty job!!! I just dunno!! I think I covered all the details but did really bad bad job!! Tell me what you feel?? Have you read this booK??? And I take the liberty to  post about the other three books tomorrow!!

with warm regards
